Description: Towson University is proud to boast that we have several hundred alumni in the Los Angeles Area. After many years of visits from the alumni staff and organized events planned from Maryland, the responsibility of the chapter events and communications is in our hands, thanks to this wondeful new tool. Whatever your background, or graduation year, I hope you will check this site regularly, join in chats, post messages and let the chapter representative know if there are events taking place that you would like to invite your fellow TU alumni.
 
New York Alumni Community
Description: A Towson University Alumni Chapter is defined as an interested group of more than 200 alumni residing in a specific geographic area. An alumni volunteer representative is identified and designated to pursue the establishment of a chapter.
 
San Diego Alumni Community
Description: A Towson University Alumni Chapter is defined as an interested group of more than 200 alumni residing in a specific geographic area. An alumni volunteer representative is identified and designated to pursue the establishment of a chapter.
 
Seattle Alumni Community
Description: The Seattle Network is a group of involved alumni that have migrated to the Great Pacific Northwest. Although we have flourished both personally and professionally here, we still find our roots in Towson. Our alumni have participated in a variety of activites including working on a Habitat for Humanity project, attending Mariners baseball games, and spending elegant evenings on the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train, just to name a few. We enjoy getting together in various settings to talk about what is new in our lives as well as swap favorite stories about our times at Towson University. New members are always welcome and are encouraged to participate in suggesting new and exciting activities for our group.

TU announces contest for the lyrics of the brand new Fight Song!
Here is your chance to create a new tradition! Towson University is looking for a student, faculty/staff member, alum, or friend of the university to write the lyrics for our new fight song! The person whose lyrics are chosen will be awarded $500!

Baltimore Hebrew Institute at Towson University established
The Board of Regents of the University System of Maryland has given approval to the plan for the integration of Baltimore Hebrew University’s academic programs with those of Towson University in the areas of Jewish studies, Jewish education and Jewish communal service. The projected start date at Towson is fall 2009.

Tigers snag ex-Top 100 recruit from Terps

BASEBALL: Pair of Tiger Alums Signed by Baltimore Orioles
Infielder Gary Helmick (Northeast H.S./Severn, Md.) and catcher Jason Stifler (North Harford H.S./Jarrettsville, Md.), a pair of seniors on the 2009 Towson University baseball team, have signed contracts with the Baltimore Orioles and have reported to their minor league affiliates.

Towson University Athletic Hall of Fame inductees announced
Three-time All-Mason-Dixon Conference soccer selection Mike Bruno, ’76, All-ECAC gymnast Carrie Leger, ’96, All-American wide receiver Mark Orlando, ’95 and record-setting swimmer Meilani Smith Snellenberger, ’96 have been selected as this year’s inductees into the Towson University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Hackerman Presidential Polytechnic Scholarship established
Willard Hackerman, Baltimore Polytechnic Institute class of 1935, has donated $1 million to Towson University to establish scholarships enabling qualifying Poly graduates to attend the university tuition-free.

Osher Foundation awards TU $1 million endowment grant
The Bernard Osher Foundation has awarded Towson University $1 million to establish an endowment for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at TU

Alumni Volunteer Recognition nominations now being accepted
Every year, the Towson University Alumni Association honors five individuals at the Volunteer Recognition Reception, who have gone “above and beyond” in their roles and positions to serve Towson alumni and students. You are invited to nominate those alumni, faculty and staff who you feel are deserving of this honor.

Towson University Athletes of the Year named
Sophomore swimmer Meredith Budner of the Colonial Athletic Association champion women’s swimming and diving team and senior infielder Gary Helmick of the baseball team were named as Towson University’s Female and Male Athlete of the Year award winners, it was announced at the annual Athletic Awards Banquet in the Towson Center on Monday night.

Women’s lacrosse wins second straight CAA title

Towson made history Saturday afternoon, becoming the only fourth seed in CAA history to win the conference tournament with an 8-7 victory over the University of Delaware at Albert-Daly Field on the campus of William & Mary. It was the second straight conference tournament Towson has won under head coach Missy Doherty, and they will advance now to play No. 3 North Carolina Sunday at Chapel Hill in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Enrich your retirement: Join the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
The mission of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Towson University is to offer adults age 50 and older opportunities for continued learning, along with programs and activities for social and cultural enrichment. The basic concept of the Institute is that learning is a lifelong process and is enhanced in a congenial atmosphere with like-minded individuals.


Fan Buses to the 2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
This fall, The Towson University TIGER Band will be traveling to New York City to participate in the 2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!  The Marching Band would like to know if you would be interested in taking fan buses to go see the parade.  Please take their short survey.

TU Scholarships available to children of alumni
The Towson University Alumni Association is proud to offer four scholarships to incoming or current TU students. Two of these scholarships are specifically designed for legacy families, such as children or grandchildren of Towson alumni. For further questions, please call the Office of Alumni Relations at 800-887-8152. The deadline for all scholarships in June 15, 2009.
