Sandy Love ‘10
Family Studies

Sandy Love was a native Washingtonian who moved to the Baltimore area at the age of 18 with her new dental-student husband. She embraced life in the area, raised a family, and had a successful career in many areas culminating with teaching dyslexic children to read. Now, at the age of 71, Sandy Love recently received her Bachelor of Arts degree from TU in Family Studies.

According to Ms. Love, the Golden ID program at Towson was instrumental in achieving her goal of a bachelor's degree. She came to Towson with an Associate's degree that she earned at CCBC Essex at the age of 52. When she met with admissions counselors here at Towson, it was determined that her credits transferred best towards a degree in Family Studies, so that is exactly what Ms. Love went after. She spent four years on Towson’s campus working towards the degree she earned on Friday, May 21, 2010. She loved the class she took with Dr. Diane Hall in the Family Studies department, and especially liked learning how to write articles in the APA style. While she says all of her professors in the program were “all very swell” she recalls that Dr. Karen Eskow, chair of the Family Studies department, was vital to her success. Another important influence during Sandy Love’s undergraduate career here at Towson was her fellow students. The students were “always there to help me, especially with the technology.” Being surrounded by younger students “provided such a wonderful perspective and kept me feeling young” according to Ms. Love.

Now that she has completed her bachelor's degree, Sandy Love has no plans to end her quest for knowledge. She is currently enrolled in a master’s program at TU with hopes of becoming a reading specialist. The program will take approximately two years to complete, so be on the lookout for this inspirational student and her contagious enthusiasm!

Towson Heritage Celebration

The Alumni Relations Office is looking for our legacy students and alumni. Family connections are a part of Towson University’s success. Many of our current students are sons and daughters of Towson alumni, or they have legacy connections through their siblings or grandparents. We believe that these legacy connections are something to commemorate, so we are inviting all of our legacy alumni and students to a special “Towson Heritage Celebration.” Please let us know if you are part of a Towson University legacy family and we will get you the information about the event.

 TU 2010

Culminating the 2010 Plan

With a beautiful and ever-improving 328-acre landscape, Towson University has had more than a half a billion dollars in construction projects completed, planned, or underway in the last six years. In 2005, we opened new doors to the Center for the Arts. In 2007 a new Childcare Center opened on Auburn Drive and the Towsontown Garage expansion provided more than 500 new much-needed parking spaces. In the fall of 2008, nearly 670 new beds in the West Village's new Paca and Tubman Houses were the first phase of two phases of housing west of Osler Drive. West Village phase two, two more residence halls are now underway and scheduled to open in Fall 2011. The West Village Commons Building, an 85,000 square-foot second student union, is currently under construction and will open Summer 2011. The first phase and 100,000 square feet of the LEED silver-certified College of Liberal Arts opened to students, faculty and staff in Fall 2009; the second phase of the 250,000 square-foot project is set to open Fall 2011. Construction on the 5,000-seat Towson Center Arena Addition is scheduled to begin next summer with a 2013 opening.
